This is a family friendly car camping event on a graveled campsite area in Gunnison National Forest accessible via a well graveled road by any kind of vehicle. You are responsible for bringing your own food, water, and shelter. Bathrooms and fellowship are provided. This event is free, including the skills
training. All events are optional. All people of good temperament are welcome.

The skills classes are yet to be decided, if there is something you want to see covered let us know. As always they will take up a few hours here and there and not the whole day. This gathering is mainly about the fellowship of the outdoors.

Here is the trip video from last year: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=anQwC4-gkOg

For those who have attended in years past, we will be at the same location. For planning purposes for everyone the location is near Buzzard Divide on the east side of Grand Mesa. When we get closer, I will post turn by turn directions so folks can get there easily.

Please let us know if you have any questions.

It will be good to see you guys, so I hope it works. Any class requests from the boys?

Well Scot, this will be the first summer I will be taking them backpacking...and they are pumped about that. So anything related to that would be cool...maybe something on acquiring water, filtration, etc... I'll ask them tonight at dinner and get back to you.

What about something involving two wheels of the pedal powered variety? I think Strow said he was planning on bringing his new bikes along, I could easily bring mine. Many of the double track roads out there would be good beginner terrain for those that maybe haven't spent much time riding off road.

When Evan redid the website he included a no-cost link for the gathering. There is a link with directions too on that page. It is not mandatory that you "buy" a spot, but it will help us track how many folks to expect, and how all is planning on coming:

At this point, the one class that will have definitively decided on is the shelter class as requested by El Mac's boys. There are two other possible classes that I am waiting on seeing if the people can make it. The back up class at this point is a field rifle introduction:

Different types of actions and pluses and minuses
Cartridge considerations
Optics considerations
Configuration (slings, lights, spare ammunition, etc...)
And then range time for those who are interested that would include an opportunity to shoot the different types of rifles as well as a short primer on manual of arms for each

Is there interest in that class?

Barring entanglements I will be bringing the tribe.
Let me know if you want me to bring anything.
I think the Field Rifle intro would be a great class!

Talk is cheap...lets compare fur checks.

Should be there. Numbers tbd. Shelter class sounds good. Might be able to include an R-Pod as a possible choice. ;) Definitely interested in the field rifle class. Can bring up a couple of GSRs for people to try if they like, as well as my personal choice.

The shelter building and field rifle class both sound like a great way to spend the day. I'll be there unless something unexpected comes up.

Scot,
The makeshift shelter building sounds cool. Any chance there would be a "talk" about water (sourcing/filtration/filters, etc.) as well? And the rifle stuff, well, who wouldn't be interested in that?

Confirmed classes are:
Water procurement in the back country
Intro to field rifles with a familiarization shoot (please bring eye and ear protection if you have them)
Hasty Shelters
Intro to Tracking (one of the top tracking instructors in the country will be attending and has graciously offered to share some knowledge.)

As always it will be up to the individual to decided if they want to attend the training or not, and this year is shaping up to have a lot more training than in previous years. If you want to get in on all the training it is better to plan on arriving around noon on Friday than Friday evening. The other difference this year is for those who want, you can come out Thursday evening as we will be there setting up.

If you haven't already please sign up so we have an idea of who/how many are coming: https://www.hillpeoplegear.com/Produc...10/ProductID/72

We are looking forward to seeing everyone.
