Someone gave me a Maxpedition Lunada. It was great. I don't carry a gun in a backpack, and I don't EDC any tools except my wallet and keys. The Maxpedition sling was perfect for catching the hats, glasses, sunscreen, drinks, and jackets (tied on) that previously kept my hands full when out with the youngster. And I really appreciated being able to swing it around to the front when I sat down.

Well, I left my Maxpedition in a hotel room (RIP). I'm looking to replace, and would strongly prefer US-made, but I've only found the TravTac Onyx, which is really just a bigger, simpler (too simple), less attractive version of the Maxpedition Lunada. FWIW, the Onyx is also a bigger, simpler, less attractive version of the foreign-made TravTac offerings.

If I can't find anything else, I may end up just flipping a coin. I'm trying VERY hard to talk myself into the Onyx, but not much success with that so far. I'd like to know if there are other offerings out there that I haven't found. Doesn't have to be tactical, but I want some overflow capacity.

Or maybe help me talk myself into the Onyx.

I have a grey Sneaky SUB bag. It's Medium and I've used it for exactly what you describe. They're very well built but I prefer a backpack these days so I'm not using it anymore. I'm pretty sure they're made in the USA.

The Kelty Tactical Sling is pretty nice. I don't think it's made in the USA though. But it's well made anyways.

I don`t understand why don`t you try to choose a backpack instead of sling back? I`ve bought this one for myself. Maybe it`s bigger than a bag but it`s spacious enough for all my stuff) in case you`re interested https://under-the-open-sky.com/best-backpack-coolers/ Hope I`ve changed your mind

That's a great pack, but I already have a pack.

A pack is for bringing stuff along, a sling is for keeping my hands empty. I re-bought the Lunada, and it's great. I don't leave the house with anything but water (Maxpedition roly-poly) and sunscreen.

The Lunada catches hats, glasses, tickets, trinkets, "treasure" (rocks and pinecones), and trash that used to fill my hands and pockets when I went out with my son.

I see a lot of people carrying a lot of packs. One thing they have in common: they're all full. Sometimes smaller is better.
