I'm looking for a way to divide up MH #10 cans into single use portions but I know the shelf life is supposed to be drastically effected when you expose the food to oxygen. Has anyone ever done this before? I assume you could divide them up into Zip-lock freezer bags and then add those food-saver oxygen packs but how long would the shelf life be?

I've always heard the #10 cans were good for a year after they were opened. MH's website just says store it with the lid on and doesn't give a time. There are some other sources online that say 3-12 months.

I'd say that if they were sealed in ziplocs, you'd be safe for 3-6 months. Vacuum sealing with an oxygen absorber should get you back to years of storage. Your mileage may vary.
