I have always owned Garmin gps's so i tend to stick with them. I have a Nuvi in my old blazer. And and older model somewhere in a box. I have a 401 and recently upgraded to the 601.

That being said i just discovered that i may yet have to buy another gps. I need a gps unit that i can enter known coords in so i can goto said coords and unless you have a way point saved in your 401/601 i don't think there is anyway to enter a custom coord. If i am correct about that detail can anyone recommend a more flexible gps unit?

Thank you in advance for the help...

This is old, but have a look at GarmineTrex 10. That's what I use.
You can add your coordinates, and it has a great battery life on it too which i'm sure is not the case on the more advanced GPS.
The unit comes with a basic street map but you'll want more than that. You can buy packages, yes (which are quite pricey), but GPS File Depot offers maps of most states. And they're free.
