description Description

5.3lbs after adding the Prairie Belt that this pack needs to be fully functional

Does NOT include dark brown packbag shown in main picture

When we first came out with the Decker Frame primarily for hunters, we went with the 24" tall Ute chassis. This was because it's a common belief in the hunting community that a taller pack prevents you from going under trees. Be that as it may, when it comes to comfortably carrying weight, the 28" tall frame height of the qui-Ya chassis is considerably better than the 24" frame for most folks. The first reason is shoulder lift - unless you're under 5'8" or so or have a short torso you're just not going to get good shoulder lift out of a 24" frame. Shoulder lift is what takes the load completely off of your shoulders and spine and loads the pack weight onto your pelvis. The second reason is weight distribution - it's a lot better to go up than back with weight and the taller height of the 28" frame lets you better do that. So now for those of you not concerned about getting under trees with a taller frame, the Decker Tall is available.

In order to take advantage of the extra height, the Decker Tall has the following features not found on the regular Decker:

  • 2 heights of top hang tabs - one at the same height from the bottom of the frame as the regular Decker, one at the taller height. This lets you hang the shorter pack bags either resting on the load shelf or suspended above it.
  • 2 different height settings for the center yoke (or any pockets you choose to use as a compression panel). One is at the same height from the bottom of the frame as the regular Decker, one is at a taller height.
  • High full circumference compression strap which is particularly useful for stabilizing something like a rear quarter or when you have the compression yoke docked at the lower height.

It has these other features:

  • 28" frame
  • dual 7000 series aluminum stays
  • full size framesheet
  • 3 horizontal compression straps on each side with two different height settings
  • 1 upper full compression strap
  • 2 top compression straps
  • center compression yoke for the horizontals and top straps to clip into. it can be replaced with any of our pockets by switching the repair side release buckles from the yoke to the pocket.
  • sewn on hypalon / loop laminate capture flap that can tensioned at two different locations on the sides of the frame, or taken all the way to the top of the frame

This configuration allows for all sorts of different load options from oversized dry bags to jerry cans to meat loads to day packs to multiday expedition loads.

For day hunting and certain military applications, the addition of a Decker Pocket makes a very versatile load hauling system.
