The Cargo Kit Bag is the first of our Kit Bags without a dedicated pistol compartment. Instead, it is meant for carrying large electronics such as DSLR cameras and large range finding binoculars in a protected yet readily accessible location. That being said, there are as many uses for it as there are users.
The large main compartment is a half an inch deeper than the main compartment in the Original and SAR KBs. This makes it just large enough to comfortably fit a DSLR camera body and intermediate sized lens. Unlike our other Kit Bags, the main compartment is accessible from the right side only, as the entire left side has a 2x3 PALS grid on it. The bottom has a 2x5 PALS grid on it. Right entry was chosen because it is the most natural way to stow camera bodies which are right offset. The rear of the main compartment is fully velcro loop lined so you can use our padded organizer buckets to securely stow your camera with lens mounted. The front of the main compartment has a full width full height slot pocket in which is stowed a removable foam insert. If you choose to carry a pistol in the large main compartment (might be nice for larger revolvers), you need to make use of a holster. There is a single dummy cord loop in the bottom of the main compartment.
The front zippered horseshoe opening reveals a total of 4 half width slot pockets, all constructed of stretch fabric - as is the divider between the main compartment and the horseshoe opening. This use of stretch fabric allows for a lot of flexibility in accessory carry, and there are plenty of interior dummy cord loops.
The front most slot pockets allow for quick access items and have inseam dummy cord loops to ensure you don't lose valuables. In addition to the front slot pockets, there is a 2x3 pals grid on the left side and a 2x5 pals grid on the bottom. Watch your weight, but the 2 wide pals surfaces allow you to mount bottle holsters, radio pouches, mag pouches, and our smedium GP pockets for things like rangefinders. This is our largest Kit Bag, and the one with the most exterior options so it will be very easy to load it up to the point that it is uncomfortable without being docked to a pack via load lifters, or...
We've always wanted a removeable harness on our Kit Bags and have finally found the right buckles to do so -- gatekeeper buckles (made in China). This is our first KB that comes with a quick detach (QD) harness which makes it much easier to convert to a shoulder bag or sling bag. Even fully loaded, it is VERY comfortable to carry with a Pocket Sling. It's also handy with the simpler and less expensive Attache Strap (don't worry, we are also offering a QD harness retrofit kit that works with every Kit Bag we've ever sold).
All in all, if you're looking for a backpacking friendly camera bag, a PRS bag, or a large musette style bag for sling or chest carry, the Cargo Kit Bag is the one you've been waiting for.
Kit bags are not designed to be turned into belt packs.
